Hyperhidrosis Treatment
What is Hyperhidrosis?
It is normal to sweat; this helps keep the body at a steady temperature however some people find that they sweat excessively, this is known as Hyperhidrosis. The whole body or just certain areas can be affected by this. It is unclear why this happens, however it may be that the nerves that make us sweat are more active in patients that suffer from hyperhidrosis.
Treatment:
Botulin Toxin Type A can be used to help with hyperhidrosis. This works by blocking the chemical at the end of the nerves so that it cannot work helping to reduce sweating.
The toxin is applied through micro injections into the skin targeting the sweat glands in the area which requires treatment. It is a safe procedure and is proven to give dramatic, life-changing results for many who suffer from this condition.
How long do the results last?
You should notice a difference in the sweating from 5 – 7 days. The results do very depending on the individual but usually you should expect to see the effects of the treatment for 3-4 months.
Side effects to consider
As with all medical treatments, there is some risk when using Botulinum Toxin Type A as a treatment although very rare.
Potential side effects may involve:
- Pain, redness and slight swelling where the injections have been given
- Nausea, headaches and hot flushes after the injection
